Shucking Good Start For Knysna Fest
Inclement weather plaguing parts of the Western Cape hasn't been a detriment to the annual oyster festival in Knysna.
The 25th anniversary of the festival, which started last Friday and ends this Sunday, has had a record number of visitors and participants.
Nicci Rousseau, the festival manager and co-ordinator, said one of the programme's main events - the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour, avoided the wind and rain that afflicted much of the area over the weekend.
The festival programme is divided into 80 lifestyle and sporting events - the largest number of activities ever implemented.
"We've made it as easy as possible for visitors to plan their visit to Knysna around the activities which appeal to them," Rousseau said.
The Knysna Oyster Co, the festival's main supplier, had a record number of sales on Saturday with more than 7 000 oysters consumed.
